Tomás Rolán , full name Tomás Rolán Barrios (born January 13, 1936 in Rocha , † January 9, 2014 in Avellanda , Argentina ) was a Uruguayan football player .
Career
society
The both offensively and defensively used, "Negro" called Rolán was the great-uncle of the football player Diego Rolán . He came from a modest background. The family moved to Pocitos when he was five years old. Rolán began playing football at club level in 1947 at Campbell, a club in his barrios . In 1951 he joined Danubio FC in Montevideo . There he belonged to the team of the "Cuarta División" and won the first double championship in club history in the junior division with the team in 1952, when they won both the Torneo Preparación and the Torneo Uruguayo. Rolán's teammates include the junior South American champions from 1954 Enrique Carlos Cruz , Eustaquio Claro and Ramón Cruz as well as Luis Desevo . He was active in the team of the Tercera División from 1952 and was used in the reserve at the same time. According to the El País , he made his debut in the first team of the first division in 1954 in a game against Sud América . In 1958 he secured the runner-up in the Torneo Competencia with the Montevideans . 1960 moved to Argentina to Independiente de Avellaneda . For the Argentines, where he was used as a left defender, he played in the Primera División until 1966 . During this period he won the Argentine national championship with the team in 1960 and 1963 , in 1964 and 1965 his club also won the Copa Libertadores . In the two finals of the first triumph, he was on the grid. In 1964 he was seriously injured in the first final game against Inter Milan for the 1964 World Cup . He died a few days before his 78th birthday in the Fiorito Hospital in Avellanda .
National team
Rolán belonged during the World Cup qualifiers for the 1958 FIFA World Cup the national team of Uruguay on. In the 2-0 defeat against Argentina on April 30, 1958, he worked after his substitution for Luis Miramontes .
