Tom Troupe

Tom Troupe (* 15. July 1928 in Kansas City , Missouri as Thomas Vincent Troupe ) is an American actor .

life and career

Tom Troupe took lessons from Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof in their drama school in Greenwich Village in the 1950s . He made his Broadway debut in 1957 as Peter van Pels in an acclaimed theater production of Anne Frank's Diary alongside Joseph Schildkraut . Also in the late 1950s, Troupe got his first roles in film and television. He often played soldier roles, for example in the films Die Teufelsbrigade (1968) and Shock Troop Gold (1970) and as Lieutenant Harold in the Starship Enterprise episode Entirely New Dimensions (1967). Troupe later often played high-ranking figures of authority, for example as a judge in Carl Reiner's comedy Summer School and as the mayor and father of Keanu Reeves ' character in My Private Idaho (1991). Although he has worked in over 60 film and television productions to date, he was primarily a stage actor and played on numerous stages in the United States.

After divorcing actress Sally Singer in the 1950s, he married Carole Cook in 1964 , with whom he is still married today. Cook and Troupe have appeared together in numerous plays, including A Lion in Winter and Patio / Porch . The couple was nicknamed "the Lunts of LA Theater" for their many appearances together and was awarded a theater prize in 2002. Together with his colleague Charles Nelson Reilly he founded the drama school The Faculty in Los Angeles .
