Tommaso Sala (born September 6, 1995 in Milan ) is an Italian ski racer . He specializes in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom . In 2016 he became Italian champion in slalom.

biography

Born in Milan, Tommaso Sala lives in Casatenovo in the province of Lecco and starts for the Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Oro, the sports association of the Polizia di Stato .

At the age of 15 he competed in his first FIS races in Italy . In February 2013 he took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Brașov and finished fourth and seventh in slalom and giant slalom. In November 2013 he made his European Cup debut in the giant slalom in Trysil , and his first podium place in March 2016 in the slalom in La Molina . At three Junior World Championships he achieved fourth place in the slalom of Sochi in 2016 and eighth place in the slalom of Jasná in 2014 and in the giant slalom of Hafjell in 2015 as the best results.

On December 13, 2015, he made his World Cup debut as a substitute for Roberto Nani in the slalom of Val-d'Isère . After four more appearances, at the end of the season he was crowned Italian champion in his parade discipline for the first time, beating Manfred Mölgg , among others . His first win of World Cup points was again in Val-d'Isère in December 2016, where he finished in 13th place. In the 2016/17 season he achieved four more places in the points, including 15th place in Kitzbühel .
