Casatenovo is a municipality in the province of Lecco in the Italian region of Lombardy with 13,200 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

geography

Casatenovo is located about 20 km southwest of the provincial capital Lecco and 30 km northeast of the metropolis of Milan . The municipality includes the fractions Galgiana , Campofiorenzo , Cascina Bracchi , Valaperta and Rogoredo .

The neighboring communities are Besana in Brianza (MB), Camparada (MB), Correzzana (MB), Lesmo (MB), Lomagna (LC), Missaglia (LC), Monticello Brianza (LC) and Usmate Velate (MB)

history

The community was first established in 867 BC. Mentioned. The village itself developed around the castle of the Casati family in the 10th or early 11th century.

economy

Several food manufacturers are located in the village. So among others Galbusera and Vismara .

  • Festa di San Giorgio - Feast of the patron saint on April 23rd

Attractions

  • The provost church of San Giorgio, which was built in the 13th century. However, its current appearance was created in 1635.
  • Santa Margherita Church, rebuilt in 1462. It contains frescoes in the late Gothic / Lombard style.
  • The small church of Santa Giustina, known since 1062. The bell tower is in the Romanesque style. Most parts of the church were restored in 1643.
