history
Lierna was probably founded in Celtic times . For the Romans it was a vacation spot, they also set up their winter camps in Lierna. Remains of Roman houses, objects and a floor mosaic from the 1st century were found in the district of Villa . It is believed that it belonged to Villa Commedia , one of Pliny the Younger's villas on Lake Como . The districts, which are scattered on the slopes, still have a typical medieval structure: narrow streets and houses packed close together. The medieval castle Castello , located on a small peninsula and surrounded by high walls, was considered a safe fortress against enemies. With parks and orchards, it is now privately owned.
