The road and rail bridge, built 1887–1889

In its section of the gorge between Lago di Olginate and Trezzo d'Adda , the river is a major obstacle to traffic. At Paderno d'Adda there is one of only three bridges (besides those of Olginate and Brivio), which is a remarkable monument of construction technology of the 19th century, one of the most important engineering achievements of that time in Northern Italy. The Ponte di Paderno , also called Ponte San Michele , is 266 meters long and spans the valley at a height of 85 meters. The bridge is two-storey and serves the Seregno- Bergamo railway line , and above it is the lane for light car traffic, which is led alternately via the one-way traffic light. It was built from 1887 to 1889 by the Società Nazionale Officine di Savigliano (SNOS) according to plans by the Swiss engineer Jules Röthlisberger (1851–1911 ).
