Today's community was created on February 4, 2014 from the previous communities Verderio Inferiore (translated into German as "Nieder-Verderio") and Verderio Superiore ("Ober-Verderio"). This was preceded by a referendum in December 2013, in which the majority of residents in both municipalities voted in favor of the merger, after this was rejected by the residents of the somewhat smaller Oberort in two previous referendums (1994 and 2004).
