The Tomy Tutor is a 16-bit home computer from the Japanese toy manufacturer Takara Tomy . He was sold under the names Pyuuta and Tutor.
history
The home computer appeared on the market in Japan in 1982 . Matsushita took over the production. In the UK he was marketed as a grandstand tutor . There and in the USA it did not come into business until 1983 . Overall, the system was not very successful.
Successor models
The successor Pyuuta Mark 2 (also Tutor MK II) with a full-fledged typewriter keyboard was only available in Japan in 1984 . Furthermore, a game console appeared under the name Pyuuta Jr.
hardware
The system architecture is similar to that of the Texas Instruments TI-99 / 4A, which means a certain degree of compatibility. However, the CPU is different from the model which has a Texas Instruments TMS9900 .

software
Programs
As with most home computers of the time, the tutor / Pyuuta also had its own BASIC dialect , " nihongo basic " with a character set for Kanji . The GBASIC and Tomy Basic programming languages have only been implemented outside of Japan. Tomy Paint was installed in all devices.

emulation
Released on the C64 with Tutti (TUTor Tiny Implementation) and Tutti II emulators . In May 2003 an SDL based emulator for Microsoft Windows was released . The Tomy Tutor can also be reproduced in MAME .
