Toni Kienlechner

Toni Kienlechner (born March 7, 1919 as Antonie Maria Müller in Murnau , Upper Bavaria , † October 25, 2010 in Berlin ) was a German journalist , writer and translator .

Life

Toni Kienlechner was the daughter of James Loeb's estate manager . She attended a high school up to secondary school . She then obtained foreign language diplomas in Switzerland and Scotland. From 1936/37 she worked in the book and art trade. From 1939 to 1945 she took over Ulrich Riemerschmidt Verlag Berlin. From 1946 she was married to the South Tyrolean painter Josef Kienlechner (1903–1985); the marriage resulted in two daughters. From 1950 to 1955 she was in charge of the weekly newspaper " Alpenpost " in Bolzano . From 1955 to 1994 she lived in Italy and worked as a correspondent for Bayerischer Rundfunk until 1982 . After the death of her husband in 1985, Kienlechner lived in Bracciano near Rome . In the mid-1990s she returned to her place of birth in Murnau. She spent the last years of her life in Berlin , where she died in 2010.

In addition to her journalistic work, Toni Kienlechner has written books about her adopted country of Italy as well as narrative works. She also translated contemporary Italian authors into German. In 1984 she was awarded the Helmut M. Braem Translator Prize.
