Toni Podpolinski (born December 16, 1986 in Cottbus ) is a former German handball player who was under contract with VfL Lübeck-Schwartau in the 2nd Bundesliga.
Career
At LHC Cottbus, Podpolinski was the best thrower in the 2006/07 promotion season and scored a total of 272 goals in his regional league time. In the second division season 2007/08, however, he was no longer used due to a torn cruciate ligament and after the relegation of his club to the then second division promoted VfL Bad Schwartau (since 2017 VfL Lübeck-Schwartau ) to Schleswig-Holstein. Before his injury, the player was part of the DHB junior national team.
Even in his first second division season with VfL, Podpolinski was unable to play all games due to an injury (broken metacarpal), but scored more than 80 goals in his 18 appearances. During the season he extended his contract with VfL prematurely until the end of the 2010/11 season.
The greatest success in his career is reaching the DHB Cup quarter-finals in 2009/10 , which was lost to HSV Hamburg at 29:36 .
After the 2014/15 season he was diagnosed with lymph gland cancer, after which he took pause. He made his comeback on February 10, 2017. Podpolinski ended his career after the 2018/19 season.
