Tor Birger Arneberg (born September 4, 1928 in Oslo , † September 23, 2015 in Belleair , United States ) was a Norwegian sailor .

successes

Tor Arne Berg, who for the Kongelig Norsk Seilforening sailed, took in 1952 at the Olympics in Helsinki in the 6 meter class part. He was a crew member of the Elisabeth X under skipper Finn Ferner , who finished the regatta in second place. With 4648 total points, they placed behind the Olympic champions on the Llanoria from the United States around skipper Herman Whiton and ahead of the Finnish boat Ralia from skipper Ernst Westerlund . Arneberg and Ferner received the silver medal like the other crew members Erik Heiberg , Johan Ferner and Carl Mortensen .

He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1950 and successfully completed an MBA at Harvard Business School by 1953 . A year later he married the American Jean Overhyser, with whom he had three daughters. The family emigrated to the United States in 1959, and in 1967 Arneberg received US citizenship. A short time later he worked at Xerox as a director in marketing. Arneberg's sister Vibeke Lunde and Else Christophersen also competed at the Olympic Games. Vibeke Lunde also won a silver medal in sailing in 1952, while Else Christophersen competed in dressage in 1952 and 1956 .
