After a serial killer writes the word "Torchwood" on a crime scene wall in the blood of his victims, Jack reluctantly agrees to use the "Resurrection Glove" again, which resurrects people for two minutes and in the first episode for Suzie Costello was ruin. Gwen shows an extraordinary talent with the glove and soon the testimony of the dead leads to indications that there is a connection between the murder and the deceased Suzie. After his unexpected disappearance at the end of Season 1, Jack reappears in Cardiff. And promptly there is trouble: Captain John Hart, like Jack another former time agent and Jack's ex-partner, comes through the rift. He wants the team's help track down some bombs in the city that came through the rift. Jack doesn't trust him, but agrees. The team splits up into small groups to look for the supposedly dangerous flotsam. And Captain Hart takes the opportunity to take out one by one and take possession of the stranded containers. However, the team succeeds in reuniting and confronting Captain Hart. The containers are opened by Captain Hart in the presence of the team. The composite content turns out to be a bomb that attaches to John and threatens to explode with a time fuse. This is set as a trap by the killed previous owner on the DNA of her murderer. Jack breaks that connection with the bomb just before time runs out by injecting mixed blood from all team members into John's body.

A burglary turns into a massacre in which one of the intruders dies, another intruder and the landlord are seriously injured. Only his wife is not injured. This year it seems that the time has come, and Tommy must prevent the year 1918 and our time from colliding. A truck from the company run by Rhys, Gwen's fiancé, crashed on the highway. When Rhys arrives at the scene of the accident, he sees Gwen and the rest of the team inspecting the car and securing the cargo, which Owen finds meat from an alien. Since Gwen is not being honest with him and does not admit her involvement in the investigation, Rhys follows her. The trail leads to a warehouse. While the team is still watching, Rhys tricked into getting inside. He finds a huge alien that is cut up alive by unscrupulous men as a source of meat. An argument with Gwen that evening leads to Rhys confessing about her job at Torchwood and taking him to the hub. The team wants to save the alien with his help.

Torchwood fighting a pharmaceutical company. The company uses aliens as the source of its new wonder drug "Reset" and does not shy away from murder in order to hide this. Owen loses his life on the mission.

"We are here" In London, Jack, Ianto, Gwen and Rhys find refuge in a warehouse, formerly Torchwood 1, and make makeshift furnishings. The 456 transport themselves into the chamber built by the British government and filled with a toxic atmosphere and establish direct contact with John Frobischer as the British negotiator. The government council has become a council that judges the future of humanity and plunges it into anarchy. It turns out that the children produce a substance for the 456 that works as a drug. At the urging of his daughter, Jack is freed from prison by a military force. 456 is a frequency. By analyzing Clem's death, the team becomes aware of a new frequency. Clem had a connection to the 456 and this must have disrupted the 456. The team would like to convert this frequency into a "constructive wave". This needs to be strengthened. Only a child can do this and will die in the process. The only child around is Jack's grandson. The frequency pushes all other children into a resonance body and the 456 bursts. Jack exits Earth by teleporting to a space cruiser that happens to be nearby.

Season 4: Miracle Day

The first broadcast of the fourth season was from July 8 to September 9, 2011 on the US cable channel Starz and in the UK from July 14 to September 15, 2011 on BBC One . The German-language first broadcast took place in an event programming on the weekend of August 17-19, 2012 on RTL II .

Oswald Danes, the murderer of a twelve-year-old schoolgirl, is to be executed. However, the execution does not go as planned, he does not die from lethal injection. Shortly thereafter, CIA agent Rex Matheson had a car accident that should have been his death. It is slowly becoming clear that all over the world people have stopped dying. US government agencies are informed that there is a connection to Torchwood, but this data is deleted shortly afterwards. Esther Drummond, Rex's colleague, goes looking for information about Torchwood and meets Jack. Rex heads to the UK to track down the members of Torchwood.

Here, in flashbacks, the meeting of Angelo Colasanto, a devout Catholic, and Jack in 1927 is presented. A relationship develops between the two. They are hired by the Mafia to transport a box, but they kill the contents of the box: a brain eater intended to infect President Roosevelt so that World War II ends differently. When leaving the building, Jack is shot and Angelo goes to jail. After his release, Jack picks him up. Angelo thinks Jack is the devil and later stabs him. After Jack comes to, he is tied up and repeatedly killed by various people until three men buy him from his tormentors. With Angelo's help, however, he manages to escape, and the men only have Jack's blood. In the present, Gwen kidnaps Jack to save her family. Rex and Esther manage to follow the two and save Jack and Gwen's family. The kidnapper then says that she can bring Jack to Angelo and that he knows how the miracle started.

Torchwood is brought to Angelo. He has spent his life trying to find the way to immortality, but has aged a lot and is dying. But he is not responsible for the miracle, but rather the families and descendants of the three men who wanted to buy Jack. Shortly afterwards, Rex's CIA boss arrives and wants to arrest the team. Through a trick Rex succeeds in getting him to confess that he works for the three families. He is arrested by the CIA, which then wants to work with Torchwood. Angelo dies and is therefore the first dead since Miracle Day, the cause is suspected to be a platform in the ground. When Jack refuses to inform the CIA about this, Gwen is deported back to England. Jack flees with Esther, but is shot in the process.

Esther and Jack have now fled to Scotland. Jack has recovered from his gunshot wound. Oswald Danes turns up at Gwen's to find out where Jack is. When the latter arrives, he explains that Jilly Kitzinger was recruited by the three families and then disappeared. Based on his statements, Torchwood suspects the origin of the miracle in Shanghai and Buenos Aires. During a raid, Gwen's father is found and taken to a collection camp. The team then goes to both cities, which are exactly opposite each other on the globe. While Jack and Gwen leave for Shanghai with Oswald Danes, Esther meets with Rex in Buenos Aires. Esther has with her a large amount of Jack's blood that she had taken from him during her escape. When a drop of Jack's blood falls to the ground in Shanghai and moves in one direction, Gwen suspects that the source is attracting Jack's blood.

The families in both cities deposit explosives at the entrances to the source to prevent anyone from reaching them. In Buenos Aires, Rex and Esther receive support from the Argentine military. However, one of the soldiers works for the three families and blows up the soldiers and the suitcase with the blood. Both teams manage to gain access to the source and learn from the families how the miracle came about: They gave Jack's blood, which they acquired in 1928, into the source, whereby Jack's immortality was passed on to all people. So that the effect is not reversed with Jack's now mortal blood, they wanted to have him killed. Jack wants to cut his hand to end the miracle, but his blood has to get into the source at both ends. Then Rex cuts his hand in Buenos Aires, and it turns out that the blood that was blown was his, which was exchanged for Jack's. He removes the bandage on his chest while Gwen shoots Jack, allowing enough blood to get into the well to end the miracle. However, Esther is shot by the families. Now that Jack is immortal again, his wound heals and Rex survives too. The families are believed to be killed, but it turns out that they continue to exist. At Esther's funeral, Rex learns of a traitor at the CIA and is shot by her. Shortly afterwards, however, he wakes up and his wounds heal, just as Jack does.
