The composite content turns out to be a bomb that attaches to John and threatens to explode with a time fuse. This is set as a trap by the killed previous owner on the DNA of her murderer. Jack breaks that connection with the bomb just before time runs out by injecting mixed blood from all team members into John's body.

Torchwood is brought to Angelo. He has spent his life trying to find the way to immortality, but has aged a lot and is dying. The families in both cities deposit explosives at the entrances to the source to prevent anyone from reaching them. In Buenos Aires, Rex and Esther receive support from the Argentine military. However, one of the soldiers works for the three families and blows up the soldiers and the suitcase with the blood. Both teams manage to gain access to the source and learn from the families how the miracle came about: They gave Jack's blood, which they acquired in 1928, into the source, whereby Jack's immortality was passed on to all people. So that the effect is not reversed with Jack's now mortal blood, they wanted to have him killed. Jack wants to cut his hand to end the miracle, but his blood has to get into the source at both ends. Then Rex cuts his hand in Buenos Aires, and it turns out that the blood that was blown was his, which was exchanged for Jack's. He removes the bandage on his chest while Gwen shoots Jack, allowing enough blood to get into the well to end the miracle. However, Esther is shot by the families. Now that Jack is immortal again, his wound heals and Rex survives too. The families are believed to be killed, but it turns out that they continue to exist. At Esther's funeral, Rex learns of a traitor at the CIA and is shot by her. Shortly afterwards, however, he wakes up and his wounds heal, just as Jack does.
