Toucheng ( Chinese 頭 城鎮 , Pinyin Tóuchéng Zhèn ) is a township ( 鎮 , Zhèn ) on the Pacific in the district of Yilan in the northeast of the Republic of China in Taiwan .
The township on National Road 5 is home to one of the two main submarine cable landing points in Taiwan (the other is in Fangshan on the southern tip of Taiwan). The international submarine cables SEA-ME-WE 3 , APCN, FNAL / RNAL and others are connected here.
Toucheng also includes the offshore volcanic island of Guishan Dao ("Turtle Mountain Island "). Formally, the eight Senkaku Islands (in Taiwanese reading: Diaoyutai Islands) claimed by the Republic of China on Taiwan and administered by Japan, 170 kilometers away, belong to the municipality of Toucheng.
