Dongshan ( Chinese 冬 山鄉 , Pinyin Dōngshān Xiāng , Pe̍h-ōe-jī Tang-soaⁿ-hiong ) is a rural community in the northern Taiwanese district of Yilan .
Location and importance
Dongshan is not far from the east coast of Taiwan in the middle of Yilan County. The landscape of Dongshan is characterized by the hilly foothills of the Taiwan Central Mountains and the plains in between, crossed by smaller rivers such as the Dongshan River. The area has been reclaimed by Chinese immigrants since the late 18th century. Agriculture still plays an important role today. Tea and grapefruit are among the most important products of the community . More recently, Dongshan has also gained increasing tourist importance as a local recreation area for the metropolitan regions of northern Taiwan. Popular travel destinations are Meihua Lake, around which a bike path has been laid, and the Shangri-La Leisure Farm .
Dongshan is connected to the Taiwanese railway network through its train station .
