The tourism in Israel is an important economic factor in Israel . The Ministry of Tourism in Jerusalem is responsible . The internationally used slogan of Israeli tourism marketing is "Land of Creation".

Destinations

Many travel destinations in Israel are sites of Christianity such as the Old City of Jerusalem (especially Via Dolorosa ), Nazareth , Bethlehem and the Sea of ​​Galilee . There are also numerous historical sites such as the cities of Caesarea Maritima , Bet She'an and Akkon , the Masada fortress and a section of the former spice route from Petra to Gaza. Beach holidays are possible on the Mediterranean coast (e.g. Haifa , Netanja , Herzliya ), the Red Sea and the Dead Sea . There are also diving areas and resorts on the Red Sea ( Eilat ) . There are also eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Israel . There are 68 national parks and 190 nature reserves in the country. Israel has the highest number of museums per capita in the world, with more than 200 museums. Due to the very good transport infrastructure, individual trips can be carried out easily.

Most tourists arrive via Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport . To promote tourism in the south of the country, Ramon Airport north of Eilat was opened on January 22, 2019, with a forecast of 4.2 million passengers by 2030.

A total of around 3.5 million visitors were counted in Jerusalem in 2013. Tel Aviv was visited by 1.676 million tourists. In 2011 there were 330 hotels with 47,600 rooms in Israel.

Origin of tourists by highest number (first): United States, Russia, France and Germany. In 2008 the Israeli government provided 10 million shekels (approx. € 2.077 million) for tourism advertising in Europe. A record number of visitors since 1948 was recorded in the first quarter of 2012.
