The Treptow Coast (Polish: Wybrzeże Trzebiatowskie ) is a section of the Polish Baltic Sea coast and at the same time a mesoregion in Poland that is part of the Szczecin coastal region .

location

The Treptow Coast lies in the east of the Pomeranian Bay in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship between the mouth of the Dziwna near Dziwnów in the west and the mouth of the Parsęta near Kołobrzeg in the east. It is named after the city of Trzebiatów . The coastal section is approx. 60 km long and approx. 290 km² in size and forms a compensatory coast with wide sandy beaches, up to 40 meters high coastal dunes and numerous beach lakes . The dunes are also the highest elevations in the region.

To the west of the Treptow coast lie the islands of Wolin and Usedom , to the south the Greifenberg plain and to the east the Slowinzische coast .

geology

The landscape of the Treptow coast was created in the Glacial Vistula . In addition to the glaciers that have left behind sediments and moraines, the current of the Baltic Sea also shapes the coastline, in which it transports the sand from west to east and by removing cliffs (e.g. cliffs at Niechorze and Trzęsacz ), spits and beach lakes forms. The shifting dunes are formed by the wind.
