history

The Kamper See, on which the small fishing and farming village is located, is a four kilometer long and two and a half kilometer wide inland lake with an outflow to the sea, which was called the ferry . This outflow was Rega's only estuary until the second half of the 15th century. Until the middle of the 15th century, the Regamünde seaport of the city of Treptow an der Rega was located here .

After the fairway of the Rega estuary had been made unusable by Kolberg citizens by sinking ships for shipping, Duke Erich II granted the city of Treptow permission to build a new seaport further west, at Treptower Deep , and for this purpose to divert Rega. A canal was dug between Rega and the new port; since then, Rega has had two estuary arms. In 1499 the city council of Treptow and the abbot of the Belbuck monastery agreed to connect Treptow and the completed new port via a paved land route, the Hufendamm . The old sea port of Kolberger Deep lost its importance and silted up.

In the 18th century the inhabitants of the Kolberger Deep lived mainly from fishing and peat cutting . In 1784 there were 14 fishermen, nine Büdner , a schoolmaster and 26 fireplaces (households) on site. Around 1864 there were 29 houses in Deep, including the school building, in which 32 families with around 200 people lived. The village was parish in the church of Langenhagen.

The village was known as a seaside resort a century ago and still has several hotels and guesthouses. During the summer months around 500 bathers traveled there regularly every year.

In 1907 the so-called Schill oak was planted in the Kolberger Deep . It was intended to commemorate Ferdinand von Schill's successful escape during the siege of Kolberg in 1807 by the French, when Schill managed to escape on the ferry despite a serious wound.

In the spring of 1945 the region was occupied by the Red Army and then placed under Polish administration. The German population was expelled.
