Grandstand Bergpreis

The Tribüne Bergpreis was a road bike race in the GDR that had been organized by the GDR trade union newspaper Tribüne ( Free German Trade Union Federation ) since 1957 and was named after it. Some events also carried the title Harzer Tribüne Bergpreis . 1989 was the last time the race was held.

history

The race was held in Wernigerode in the year it was founded and then took place with start and finish in Blankenburg in the Harz Mountains . At times it was a valuation race for the formation of the GDR national team and for a few years it was part of the GDR international cycling week .

In 1986 the race took place as the 1st stage in the stage race organized as the World Railway Championship (USIC) . On the occasion of this race, all railway barriers to be passed were kept open and the regular train traffic for the bike race was interrupted. The title won Yuri Kaschirin from the Soviet Union .
