Trbovlje ( German  Trifail ) is a city in central Slovenia with 18,406 inhabitants (2002).

history

On January 19, 1917, a mail train between Trbovlje and Zagorje was hit by a landslide. 40 people died in the railway accident .

Economy and Infrastructure

The city is on the Spielfeld-Straß-Trieste Centrale railway line .

In the vicinity of Trbovlje there is a coal-fired power plant, the chimney of which is the highest in Europe at 360 m. The power plant was closed at the end of 2014.

Attractions

There are two medieval churches in the center of the city as well as historic miners' settlements that were built by Germans and Austrians over 100 years ago.

There is a weekly market in the picturesque city center.

Jasna Gabrič has been the city's mayor since 2014 and was re-elected with a large majority in 2018.
