Brečko remained team captain under coach Peter Stöger even after Cologne's promotion to the Bundesliga in 2014 . In the 2014/15 season , however, he only made 17 appearances from the start and temporarily lost his regular position as a right full-back to Paweł Olkowski .
On July 30, 2015 Brečko's move to the second division club 1. FC Nürnberg was announced. He signed a contract until June 30, 2018. With 1. FC Nürnberg he was runner-up in the 2.
