The Triple Divide Peak is a peak in the Rocky Mountains in the US state of Montana near the border with Canada . It represents the watershed point at which the catchment areas of the Atlantic Ocean meet via the Missouri-Mississippi River system and the Gulf of Mexico , the Pacific Ocean via the Columbia River and the Arctic Ocean via the Saskatchewan River and Hudson Bay . It thus represents the end point of the traditional North American continental watershed and is the only point in the world where the watersheds of three different oceans meet.
Location and surroundings
The mountain is located in Glacier National Park on the main ridge of the Rocky Mountains. It owes its shape and role in the water flow regime to the meeting of several glaciers in the Ice Age , which also gave the national park its name.
