history

Triponzo, with the Madonna delle Grazie church in the background

The place is named after three bridges (Latin Tripontium , Italian Tre Ponti ), from which Triponzo became. None of the three bridges mentioned have survived. In 1425 Pope Martin V gave the place to Norcia , who resisted and submitted to Francesco I. Sforza . In 1438 the place fell to Spoleto , but five years later it was given to Norcia by Pope Eugene IV , to which Spoleto responded with the forcible capture of the place. Triponzo was conquered by Norcia in 1451, fell under the direct control of Pope Paul II in 1467 and returned to Norcia's sphere of influence in 1482.

From 1926 to 1968 the place had the Triponzo-Visso stop on the Spoleto-Norcia railway line , which was closed in 1968.
