The Tupolev R-7 ( Russian Туполев Р-7 ), also known as ANT-10 (АНТ-10), was a single-engine aircraft designed as a reconnaissance and bomber from the 1930s.

development

In 1928 a replacement was sought for the outdated Polikarpow R-1 , which was actually found in the Polikarpow R-5 . Tupolev nevertheless developed a competition design. The first flight of the ANT-10 biplane took place on January 30, 1930 and showed satisfactory flight characteristics, but the performance did not come close to that of the R-5 apart from the lower weight. The tests at the Air Force Institute were unsatisfactory, so the aircraft was returned to the OKB to remedy various defects . The tests subsequently carried out again at the end of 1930 showed no improvement. Ultimately, the more suitable timber construction of the R-5 for mass production was decisive, which led to its acceptance into the armed forces to the detriment of the ANT-10.
