The Tupolev Tu-324 is a project by the Russian manufacturer Tupolev to develop a commercial aircraft for short-haul flights. Equipment for passenger or cargo aircraft is provided. Mixed equipment is possible. There is also a variant under the designation Tu-414 in planning. There is a variant A of both machines, which differs in that it has larger tanks and a correspondingly increased range.

features

The aircraft family should be suitable for landing on grass and dirt runways, which is why the risk of sucking in foreign objects from the runway should be reduced by an increased engine position. The chassis design has also been adapted accordingly. In addition, great importance was attached to high security and low maintenance requirements. Tupolev has therefore set itself the goal of enabling 25 years of service without a general overhaul.

Stage of development

The project goes back to a requirement profile of the Russian state in 1996 for an interregional aircraft. After an initial test, development began in July of that year. A full-size wooden mock-up was built at Tupolev PLC. The mock-up had a passenger door which, when open, serves as an entry stair. For demonstration purposes, the cockpit is fully instrumented and the passenger cabin is equipped with cladding and passenger seats.

The driving force was the Republic of Tatarstan and its president. In 2015, they took the position that the project was highly ready for the market: the engine existed as a prototype, the avionics developed in Kazan were certified and will be used in the Beriev Be-200 . The aircraft was presented by its regional sponsors at MAKS 2015 , but not at Tupolev, but at the booth of a drone manufacturer also from Kazan in Tatarstan. In the spring of 2016, when the federal state funds were allocated to promote the aircraft industry, the Tu-324 was not taken into account, although it was proposed and at most with the participation of China.
