The Tupolev Tu-12 ( Russian Туполев Ту-12 , NATO code name "Type 9" ) was a Soviet bomber .
development
Andrei Tupolev based the design on the successful Tu-2 and its further developments Tu-6 , Tu-8 and Tu-10 . The hull was almost completely taken over and only the bow was changed, which received stronger glazing. Instead of the rear wheel landing gear, a nose wheel was used. Two WK-1s from Wladimir Klimow , which were replicas of the Rolls-Royce Nene 1, served as drive .
The Tu-12 was a cantilevered mid-decker in all-metal construction. The three-part wings had two spars. The double rudder unit was designed in two end plates on both sides of the elevator. The landing gear could be fully retracted.
On July 27, 1947, test pilot Alexei D. Pereljot began testing the Tu-77 prototype . On August 3rd, two machines were presented to the public at the traditional air parade in Tuschino . In 1948, the production of a small series of tests began, which served to retrain pilots from piston to jet propulsion until 1949. Some of these machines have also attempted new jet propulsion systems. There was no expansion of series production.
