The Tupolev ANT-2 ( Russian Туполев АНТ-2 ) was the first Soviet aircraft in all-metal construction . It was designed and built by Andrei Tupolew , whose development group was still part of the ZAGI at the time .
history
On May 26, 1924, Nikolai Ivanovich Petrov took off for the first flight with the prototype. The machine was difficult to control and the flight behavior was somewhat unstable, which is why the tail unit had to be enlarged in the course of the test. Although the ANT-2 was not mass-produced due to the general shortage of aluminum and engines in the USSR, it was a milestone in the use of novel materials in Soviet aircraft construction.
The aircraft can be viewed in the Museum of the Russian Air Force in Monino.
construction
The aircraft was a cantilever high- wing aircraft with a triangular fuselage cross-section. Similar to the German Junkers constructions, it had corrugated iron planking. The thick-profile wing had two spars and 26 mesh ribs. The ANT-2 was able to carry two passengers who sat opposite each other in the fuselage. A British Bristol Lucifer engine with 100 hp served as drive .
