Twit One

Twit One (bourgeois Tim Purnell ) is a musician , producer and DJ from Cologne .

Life

Through his father, who came from England, Purnell came into contact with soul , pop and disco music from the late seventies and early eighties. During his school days, he continued to be influenced by Michael Jackson and hip-hop groups such as House Of Pain and Public Enemy . As a teenager he also played bass in a punk and ska band and gained his first experience as a musician.

After Purnell started collecting records , he bought an MPC in 2000 and started producing beats himself. Together with his friend Lazy Jones , he finally started playing Stecken in the Cologne bar that same year . After initial success in the Cologne hip-hop scene and productions with rappers such as Retrogott , Sylabil Spill and Planet Asia , Purnell also worked with Fleur Earth and played bass in her band Fleur Earth Experiment and produced the beats. During a performance with Fleur Earth Experiment, the band was discovered in 2008 by Oliver "Olski" von Felbert, founder of the Melting Pot Music ( MPM ) label , and released their first album on the label in the same year. In 2009 he released the album Hi-Hat Club Vol. 1 on the label Melting Pot Music with the Cologne producer Hulk Hodn under the common pseudonym Testiculo Y Uno . This was followed by his first solo production, the 10 "record Steppingstones in 2010, also on Melting Pot Music, vacation in the Bredoullie in 2013 on the label Entbs (formerly Entourage-Business) , which is also based in Cologne.

Purnell is also co-owner of the record store Groove Attack Record Store , owns his own label Dark Circles Under the Third Eye (AUDDA) and, together with Hulk Hodn and Memyselfandi, hosts the Internet radio Radio Love Love .

style

According to his own statement, the main component of his music is always soul, as well as jazz , funk and disco influences paired with old school boom bap hip-hop. But Ambient and House influence Purnells music, the latter explicitly Purnells pseudonym Tito Wun is produced. The hashtag Cool Bap used on SoundCloud for its music has established itself as a fitting term for a more relaxed type of boom bap.

Many artists live share that style of hip-hop and work in Cologne, which is why the city in addition to their own scene also has its own sound is awarded. These artists include Retrogott and Hulk Hodn as well as Hubert Daviz , who is also under contract with Melting Pot Music. The extended environment of the city and the label includes Suff Daddy , Dexter , Brenk Sinatra , Knowsum , Dramadigs , Fid Mella , DJ Adlib , Full Crates , FS Green and FloFilz .

Trivia

Purnell appears in connection with various artists under various pseudonyms, which sometimes leads to confusion. He is represented on the collaboration Twit Bonny with Miles Bonny both as Twit Uno and under the name Nestor Uno. Also on this album is a cover of The Doors song Love Street by the group The Türs , in which Purnell is performed as bassist under the pseudonym Echomann . The album was produced and released under Purnell's usual stage name Twit One . Under the similar pseudonym Nesta Uno , he only released the single Is this Love / Dub on the British label Twit's World. Furthermore, Purnell is represented on the album Auf Ein Neues by Retrogott and Hulk Hodn as Wuitton , and as Gringo Starr on the single Brennen dich ab / Safe In The Fire Dub by Fleur Earth.

Purnell produces with an MPC 2000 XL as well as an MPC 500 and the audio software Cubase .

Purnell called his home studio Treehouse and now Mr. Wun's Dojo .
