Of the

part of a series of former Hungarian tram - railcars . The 89 largely identical cars for the four cities were produced between 1906 and 1915; they were all standard gauge . 60 wagons were produced by Magyar Waggon-és Gépgyár ( MWG ) from Győr , the remaining 29 wagons came from Schlick Vasöntő és Gépgyár from Budapest.

description

The tram cars treated here had two engines, the length over the coupling was 9600 millimeters. The car body was 8800 millimeters long, the wheelbase was 3600 millimeters. The cars had closed platforms (albeit with open entry areas), were 2100 millimeters wide and 10,000 kilograms. They each offered space for 48 people, divided into 24 seats and 24 standing places. The three-part middle front window and the middle of the five side windows were particularly characteristic of this type. The latter was a little wider than the other four windows. The type also had a lantern roof .

The 26 cars for Timișoara

Timișoara, in front of today's Gara de Nord: a B-car with a Spiering sidecar

In the city of Timișoara , which is now part of Romania , the 26 cars of this type were the second generation of electric tram cars, where they were designated as type B from 1922. The then Temesvári Villamos Városi Vasút procured them in five delivery lots as a supplement to the single-engine Weitzer railcars used from 1899 . Compared to the latter, the B cars were also called large cars before 1922 . Timișoara was the only one of the four cities to receive vehicles from both manufacturers.

In Timișoara, the type B was assigned the road numbers 18 to 43 following the 17 Weitzer railcars. Initially, the 26 cars ran exclusively on their own, but after the reintroduction of trailer operation in 1909, they also ran with sidecars. All types were pre- tensioned, these were the Spiering cars from 1909, the trailer cars 01 to 03 from 1914, the type A from 1919, the type AII from 1921, the type C from 1922 and finally the type CII from 1928.

Over the years there have been some changes to type B, for example the conversion from roller to bracket pantographs in the mid-1920s, later the introduction of scissor pantographs as part of the modernization program from 1956 to 1960. They were also provided with an illuminable on the roof Line number display mounted, furthermore the three-part middle windscreen was replaced by a one-piece pane.

In the second half of the 1950s, the B-cars were no longer up-to-date and also too small, but they could not be done without them. Therefore, in 1958, the tram company began to equip them with new steel car bodies. This was tantamount to a new building, a completely new car body was placed on the existing chassis. The new Pionier T.4 and T.5 series was initially created from 19 B-cars , followed by the T1-62 from five more :

1958 : Cars 18, 19, 22, 24, 25 and 26 converted into pioneers from 1964 new numbers 144, 145, 146, 131, 132 and 133
1959 : Cars 23, 31, 32, 40, 41 and 42 converted to Pioneer from 1964 new numbers 134, 136, 135, 151, 152 and 148
1960 : Cars 20, 21, 34 and 35 converted into pioneers from 1964 new numbers 137, 138, 141 and 142
1961 : Cars 33, 39 and 43 converted into pioneers from 1964 new numbers 139, 140 and 154
1963 : Cars 27, 30 and 38 converted to T1-62 from 1964 new numbers 74, 75 and 73
1964 : Cars 28 and 29 converted to T1-62 new numbers 76 and 78

In addition, C and CII sidecars as well as D and DII railcars have been reconstructed accordingly. Only the two B-cars 36 and 37 were excluded from the conversion program; they were used as work cars from 1966 and were assigned the new company numbers 3 and 4 for this purpose. From the early 1970s, the company finally referred to them as VS3 and VS4, the abbreviation VS standing for vagon de serviciu - that is, company car. It served to distinguish it from the Timiș 2 sidecars 3 and 4, which were built in 1972 and 1973 respectively . Both work cars were finally decommissioned in the second half of the 1970s and later scrapped, so that - even in the converted condition - none of the 26 B-cars from Timișoara remained.

The 15 cars for Budapest

For 15 cars for the Budapest – Újpest – Rákospalota Villamosvasút had the road numbers 9100 to 9114 and were designated as type SS based on the manufacturer of the electrical equipment (Siemens-Schuckertwerke). None of these vehicles survived.

The 30 cars for Debrecen

Even of the 30 railcars delivered to Debrecen , there they had the road numbers 1 to 30, none remained.

The 18 cars for Košice

10 of the 18 vehicles delivered to the Kassai Villamos Közúti Vasút - cars 1, 3, 4, 6, 9, 11, 14, 15, 17 and 18 - were confiscated by the Hungarian army in November 1944 and taken to Budapest, where one she converted to row seating and cobel glazing. From there, they finally got to the Miskolc tram in 1951 , where they were added to the inventory under the new numbers 90 to 99. Two cars in this series still exist today. Car 1 (serial number 18367, later Miskolc 94) was in the Technical Museum in Brno from 1976 to 2004 , today it belongs to the Slovak Technical Museum and is parked on the premises of the Aviation Museum at Košice Airport . Car 4 (Miskolc 97) is a gazebo in Miskolc.
