Tyree Harris Bell , (born September 19, 1815 in Covington , Kentucky , † September 1, 1902 in New Orleans , Louisiana ), was a Brigadier General of the Confederate Army in the Civil War .

Life

Bell was born in Covington, Kentucky and grew up on his parents' plantation in Tennessee . When the rift between the northern and southern states broke out, he became a passionate supporter of the Confederates . In the spring of 1861, he formed a separate company , which in the 12th Tennessee Infantry - regiment with him as captain was incorporated. Soon after, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and led his troops at the Battle of Belmont , Missouri, and on April 6 and 7, 1862, at the Battle of Shiloh and the Battle of Richmond , Kentucky. He then became commander of a cavalry - department and participated in the Battle of Perryville and December 31, 1862 to January 2, 1863 at the Battle of Stones River part.

In 1863 he undertook with Major General Forrest in West Tennessee and North Mississippi. From then until the end of the war, Bell and Forrest worked together. On February 28, 1865, Bell was promoted to brigadier general. Towards the end of the war, Bell and Forrest were jointly captured by Union forces near Selma , Alabama .

After being captured, Bell moved to Fresno , California and became a farmer. He died while traveling in New Orleans , Louisiana , on September 1, 1902. He was buried in Bethel Cemetery in Del Ray , Fresno County , California.
