Tyszkiewicz (Polish plural Tyszkiewiczowie , in the feminine form both Tyszkiewicz and the inflected feminine form Tyszkiewiczowa are common or Tyszkiewiczówna if unmarried, Lithuanian Tiškevičiai ) is the name of a Polish noble family of Ruthenian origin, originally from the Lithuanian Grand Dynasty .

The family has the title of Count , which was awarded by the Polish King Sigismund II August on November 5, 1569 to Wassili Tyszkiewicz Kalenicki (Prince of Lohoisk and Berditchev - Voivode of Smolensk). Confirmation in Russia in 1861, in Saxony in 1862 and in Austria in 1893. In 1902 the title of Count was recognized for the entire family by the Russian Tsar .

The Tyszkiewicz family was one of the most powerful and wealthy families of magnates in Poland-Lithuania . The first of the family is the Ruthenian boyar Kalenik in 1437 and his son Tyszka, who were landowners in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Wassili, son of Tyszka, was a great-grandson of Monwid, the eldest son of Grand Duke Gedemina of Lithuania (according to Gotha).

Then his descendants obtained the voivodal state offices in Podolia and other voivodships . In this way the family got extensive estates and was able to finance the construction of numerous palaces, churches and monasteries.
