The district of Uchumarca is located in the province of Bolívar in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​221 km². The 2017 census counted 2,445 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3116, in 2007 it was 2888. The district administration is located in the 3035  m high village of Uchumarca with 1128 inhabitants (as of 2017). Uchumarca is 16 km northwest of the provincial capital Bolívar .

Geographical location

The Uchumarca district is located on the western flank of the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the far northeast of the Bolívar province. The Río Chivane crosses the district in a north-westerly direction and drains the area towards the Río Marañón .

The Uchumarca district borders on the Longotea district to the west , the Chuquibamba and Leimebamba districts (both in the Chachapoyas province ) to the north, the Huicungo district ( Mariscal Cáceres province ) to the east, the Bolívar district to the south and the south-west the Ucuncha district .
