Wupper

The Uelfe (alternative spelling: Ülfe ) is a right tributary of the Wupper in Radevormwald .

Location and description

The Uelfe rises near Rädereichen and flows into the Wupper at Dahlhausen .

The four localities with the names I. Uelfe to IV. Uelfe were named after the brook . Landesstraße 414, the Uelfe-Wuppertal-Straße, runs parallel to the brook over large stretches .

For the first hundred meters, the Uelfe is channeled underground for the most part, above ground it appears for the first time in the Radevormwald industrial park near the town of I. Uelfe in the form of a rain retention basin.

Uelfebad

The so-called Uelfebad is known as an excursion destination . The Uelfebad is a former open-air swimming pool that was opened on June 26, 1927, but has not been used as a pool for several decades. Today the Uelfebad and its surroundings are used by anglers, model boaters and walkers for relaxation.

If the Uelfebad has a sufficient ice thickness in winter, the city of Radevormwald officially operates it as an ice rink. A restaurant completes the facility.

natural reserve

The Oberbergische Kreis is planning a nature reserve for the "Uelfetal with side valleys", as it is called in the official announcement. Any (structural) changes are prohibited in accordance with the Landscape Act of North Rhine-Westphalia until May 27, 2005 on an area of one million square meters.

The Uelfe-Wuppertal-Straße is classified by the regional working group for nature conservation and the environment in Arnsberg as a typical low mountain range avenue, the existence of which is, however, endangered by new federal development guidelines (at least 4.5 m tree distance to the street).

Mills and hammer mills

The water power of the Uelfe was used to drive mills and hammers. In the course of the stream there were the following water-operated sites:
