Unterste Mühle is a village in Radevormwald in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the North Rhine-Westphalian administrative district of Cologne in Germany .

Location and description

The place is in the north of the urban area of Radevormwald in the valley of the Uelfe . The neighboring towns are Im Hagen , Oberste Mühle , Radevormwald , and Leimholer Mühle . In the south of Unterste Mühle the Kollenberger Bach flows into the Uelfe, which is dammed up here to form the Uelfebad . Thanks to local restaurants and a parking lot for hikers, the pond is a destination for excursions. Recreational sports such as fishing, model boating and hiking are practiced here. The wooden pedestrian bridge with its pavilion leading over the pond is a landmark of the town of Radevormwald.

Politically, the place is represented by the direct candidate from electoral district 170 in the city council of Radevormwald.

history

In 1512, Unterste Mühle was listed in the church accounts of the Reformed parish of Radevormwald with the name "nederste Moel".

A contract between the church and the town of Radevormwald from August 1611 shows that the “top and bottom mills” owned by the church in Radevormwald could often not be operated in summer and winter because “the water to the mills is too weak and low ”. In order to avoid this “grinding break”, the grain had to be ground in neighboring villages when the water was scarce, the city council of Radevormwald planned to build a windmill on one of the city's towers. For the achievable rental income, the church feared that “this would reduce the rent” and that the mill would no longer be profitable for the church alone. On August 21, 1611, the city of Radevormwald took over the lower mill on a long lease.

The Prussian premiere from 1840 to 1844 names the place "Schmidts Mühle". From the official topographic map ( Prussian New Admission ) from 1892 to 1894, Unterste Mühle is used as the place name. The name Hees-Mühle, which is also common for the place, comes from the owner family Johan Wilhelm Hees and their descendants, who have been documented since 1855.

Immediately below Unterste Mühle, the so-called Uelfebad was built in 1927 down the Uelfa. It was used as an outdoor swimming pool until 1955. After that, the bath became a pond.
