Location of Stoote in Radevormwald

Stoote is a court in Radevormwald in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the North Rhine-Westphalian administrative district of Cologne in Germany .

Location and description

The former Stoote waterworks converted into a residential building

The Stoote estate is located in the south of Radevormwald on the city limits of Wipperfürth and Hückeswagen on the Bevertalsperre . The neighboring towns are Lichteneichen , Levenhausen and Stooter Mühle .

The Erlenbach flows into the Erlenbach pre-lock of the Bevertalsperre. District road 11 runs over the dam of this barrier.

The place is politically represented in the city council of Radevormwald by the direct candidate from electoral district 180.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1514. “To the Stoote” is listed in the church accounts of the Reformed community in Radevormwald at that time.

In 1898 a deep well was built in Stoote to supply the town of Radevormwald with water. A well shaft measuring around 1.5 m in diameter and 20 m deep with a 29 m long transverse tunnel was used to obtain groundwater. The steam engine-driven pump in the machine house in the bottom of the Bever valley was able to pump 150 cubic meters of water into the water tower in Rädereichen every day .

A part of the local area of Stoote disappeared under the water level with the completion of the expansion of the Bevertalsperre in 1938.

In the same year, a new well house was built in Stoote above the future water level at today's Kreisstraße 11. The new well shaft was connected to the old system by a 100 m long transverse tunnel and the old transverse tunnel was extended by another 70 m. In 1941, the newly built waterworks went into operation. In 1986 the district president in Cologne granted permission to sell the pumping station, which had been abandoned in 1981, and the water works in Stoote.

The so-called "Hückeswagener Landwehr", raised in the last third of the 13th century, ran in the area of this court. It protected the district court and parish of Hückeswagen, which had become Bergisch through purchase since 1260, from incursions from the district court of Radevormwald, which was still in Cologne. Other literature describes the Stoote grazing part of this line as "Ispingrader Landwehr". It ran from Radevormwald Ispingrade via Marke to the vicinity of Stoote.
