The place was mentioned for the first time in 1317, namely “Dietmar von Dalhusen is a seal witness in a document for the Order of St. John at Burg ad Wupper”. The spelling of the first mention was "Dalhusen". In 1715 the Topographia Ducatus Montani map shows the location of Oberdahlhausen as "Freyhof" and also under the name "Dalhusen".
