Vorm Baum is a village in Radevormwald in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the North Rhine-Westphalian administrative district of Cologne in Germany .

Location and description

Vorm Baum is in the north of Radevormwald near the border of the urban area of Ennepetal on the county road 8. The neighboring towns are Pastoratshof , Griesensiepen , and Saalberg .

The Griesensiepen rises in the north of the village and flows into the Spreeler Bach .

The place is politically represented in the city council of Radevormwald by the direct candidate from electoral district 170.

The most famous resident of the place was the painter Paul Wellershaus .

history

In 1537 the place was first mentioned under the name “vur dem Bome” in the “church accounts” of the Reformed community of Radevormwald.

The section of the Bergische Landwehr passing on the northern edge of the village , which stretched from Wuppertal-Elberfeld to Marienheide-Krommenohl, protected the Bergisch territory from incursions from the Märkisch region. The local researcher Gerd Helbeck dates the emergence of this Landwehr to the early 14th century. The name Vorm Baum is derived from a barrier in the Landwehr , which was located at the passage of a medieval old road (today's county road).

In 1815/16 the place had 85 inhabitants. In 1832 the place belonged to the parish Remlingrade of the rural outskirts of the mayor's office Radevormwald . The place, categorized as a village according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had eleven residential buildings and two agricultural buildings at that time. At that time there were 61 people living in the village, all of whom were Protestant. In 1888, twelve residential buildings with 100 inhabitants are listed in the community encyclopedia of the Rhine Province .
