Oberschmittensiepen is located in the east of Radevormwald on a side road that branches off from the federal road 229 in Eich and runs in the direction of Borbeck . Neighboring towns are Klaukenburg , Finkensiepen , Schmittensiepen , Jägershaus and Köttershaus .

A tributary of the Finkensiepen, which flows into the Ennepe , rises to the northwest of the village, near the road to Finkensiepen . The Hengsmeker Bach rises in the south and flows into the Ennepe via the Hartmecke.

The place is politically represented in the city council of Radevormwald by the direct candidate from electoral district 180.

The historical topographical map from 1892 to 1894 shows an unnamed and demarcated courtyard with a building on it at the site of Oberschmittensiepen. More recent topographical maps from 1954 onwards name the location "Oberschmittensiepen".
