Herkingrade is a place and district in Radevormwald in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the North Rhine-Westphalian administrative district of Cologne in Germany .

The place is on the state road 130 in a continuation of the line Dahlerau , Keilbeck and Auf der Brede . In Herkingrade there is a location and a fire fighting group of the Radevormwald volunteer fire brigade.
The Herkingrader Bach flows through the village . Its source can be found northeast of the settlement. The brook flows into the Uelfe in the south of Keilbeck .
In addition to a farm, the small town is dominated by residential developments, and a restaurant is also located there.

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1315, when “Count Adolf VI. von Berg von Gottfried von Sayn u. a. the Freigut Herkintrayde ".

In 1815/16 the place had 106 inhabitants. In 1832 the place belonged to the parish Remlingrade of the rural outskirts of the mayor's office Radevormwald . The place, categorized as a village according to the statistics and topography of the administrative district of Düsseldorf , had 21 residential houses and eleven agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, 197 residents lived in the place, 39 Catholic and 158 Protestant faith. In 1888, 19 houses with 197 inhabitants are listed in the community encyclopedia of the Rhine Province .

Buildings
In 1883 a distillery was put into operation in Herkingrade, in which a clear grain with 32% alcohol content was distilled with a daily production of 400 to 450 liters. The yeast attack was sold to the surrounding bakeries. During the First World War , production was stopped because the copper in the devices was needed for armament. The building, which was used by a local farmer as a storage room, still exists today, but without the chimney, which was demolished in August 1965 due to dilapidation.
