Kottmannshausen is a hamlet in Radevormwald in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the North Rhine-Westphalian administrative district of Cologne in Germany .

Location and description

The village of Kottmannshausen is made up of three residential buildings and a farm in the Beverbache valley , southeast of Radevormwald, directly on the city limits of Wipperfürth. Neighboring towns are Buschsiepen , Untergraben and Ahlhausen . The place can be reached in Radevormwalder urban area via the federal road 229 . From the village of Eich , a road leads via Hahnenberg, Weyer and Buschsiepen to Kottmannshausen.

In the local area of Kottmannshausen, the Kottmannssiepen , the Vogelsangsiepen and the Ahlhausener Siepen flow into the Bever .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1514. "Kottemanßhuß" is listed in the church accounts of the Reformed community in Radevormwald at that time. There is evidence of a Landwehr line running from Wuppertal-Elberfeld to Marienheide-Krommenohl in the east of the village. This Bergische Landwehr secured the Bergisches Territory from incursions from the Märkische. The local researcher Gerd Helbeck dates the emergence of this Landwehr to the early 14th century.

In connection with the collection of land tariffs, Kottmannshausen appears as one of 125 customs offices in an official list from 1804. However, this station is already referred to as "available" .

The dirt road from Obergraben to Kottmannshausen and its extension, the road further towards Ahlhausen, is of early medieval origin. It was part of a path leading from Hohenplanken via Obergraben and Kottmannshausen to Hückeswagen .

From the “Comparative overview of the assessment of the mills in the years 1872 and 1873” of the town of Radevormwald it is evident that a water mill for grinding grain was operated in Kottmannshausen. The miller at the time had to pay 8 thalers trade tax for the year 1872. A mortgage deed from 1862 describes the mill as a fruit, grinding and stamping mill . In 1920 a bakery with an oven was set up in the basement of the house. In 1925 the bakery was expanded and the existing oven was replaced by a steam oven from the Sebastian Wenz company from Würzburg. While the bakery had to shut down again in 1940, it was still ground with water power until the wooden hub of the water wheel broke in 1942. Then the mill was driven with an electric motor. In 1950 the mill was stopped.

The history of the individual farms in the place cannot be consistently documented. However, the existing old documents prove the agricultural use of land and buildings. For example, in a measurement slip made by the court of “Petter Hackenberg” in Wipperfürth-Hohenbüchen in 1774, there is mention of a piece of forest belonging to this court near Kottmannshausen. For the year 1800, the Bauer family or 1,943 Zimmermann in Kottmannshausen in a document to Erbhöferolle of 1942 from Anerbengericht certify that the farm described therein is documentary evidence since that year in the possession of the said family. A notarial deed of another farm in the village has been preserved from 1842, in which the transfer of the farm in Kottmannshausen from a "farmer" and his wife to their son is regulated. The notary lists exactly what equipment in terms of areas, buildings, agricultural equipment, as well as living and dead inventory, the farm has. Accordingly, the said farm had an area of around 46 acres, a residential building, a barn, a beehive and a bakery, as well as four dairy cows.

In the 20th century there were still three farms in Kottmannshausen. Until the 1960s they were full-time farms with 10 to 20 hectares of farmed land, they achieved income mainly from keeping dairy cattle, pigs, chickens and, to a lesser extent, from farming with grain and potatoes.

Attractions

In the valley of the Kottmannssiepen the remains of a rampart and moat of a landwehr from the Middle Ages have been preserved.

Huserland is the name of a privately owned garden railway . It was put into operation in 1997. The track system has a length of 1,100 m. It uses rails with a gauge of 5  inches or 127 mm. There are steam days several days a year.

Hiking trails

A circular route marked with the hiking sign A2 leads through Kottmannshausen. The approximately 5 km long path is signposted by the Sauerland Mountain Association and starts and ends at the hiking car park in the village of Wipperfürth- Egen, which is two kilometers away .

bus connections

There is only one bus stop for school buses in town. Coming from Wipperfürth, the Ahlhausen stop on line 337 (VRS / OVAG) is 600 meters away .

In order to get from Halver or Radevormwald to Kottmannshausen, the Eich 134 (VRL) bus stop is about 3 km away .
