Kotten is a locality in the town of Radevormwald in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the North Rhine-Westphalian administrative district of Cologne in Germany .

Location and description

The formerly independent district of Kotten is located in the north of Radevormwald on the Ritter von Halt Straße in the valley of the Kottenbach . The nearby towns Kollenberg , Hermannshagen and with telegraph designated location of a station of the Prussian optical telegraph are also risen in the city of Radevormwald.

In tax lists from 1663 and 1673, the places outside the city walls of Radevormwald are listed. “Im Kotten” was located in an area in front of the city marked by posts .

Kotten is recorded in the Topographia Ducatus Montani from 1715. The map of Prussian first recording from 1840 to 1843 names the place "im Kotten". The place name Kotten was used in the topographic maps until 1954.

In the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district from 1836, four residential houses and an agricultural property with a total of twenty inhabitants are given for Kotten in 1832.
