Ukweli Roach (born September 22, 1986 in Derby , Derbyshire ) is a British actor in film, television and theater. He became internationally known as the psychiatrist Dr. Robert Borden in the crime series Blindspot .

life and career

Ukweli Raphael Roach, born in 1986, is the son of an English mother and a Guyanese father. He grew up in Woolwich . Roach considered studying law, but switched to major after joining the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London . After graduating from (RADA) in 2009, he was also seen as a stage actor at the Globe Theater in the role of Tybalt in a Romeo and Juliet play.

Ukweli Roach became enthusiastic about dance as an artistic form of expression at a young age . He is an accomplished street dancer modeled on the Nicholas Brothers and also director of the Birdgang dance company. He went on tour internationally with the international hip-hop dance show Blaze and starred in videos by the music and performance artists Mariah Carey and Kylie Minogue . In 2010 he got his first big movie role as Jay in the dance film StreetDance 3D . A year later he played the minor role of a rapper in the romantic drama Two in One Day, directed by Lone Scherfig, with Anne Hathaway , Jim Sturgess and Patricia Clarkson in the lead roles.

Since 2012 he has also been seen in various more complex TV roles. He played the lawyer Tom Greening in the television series Eternal Law in six episodes of the series, he also appeared in the television series Starlings between 2012 and 2013 in twelve episodes as Reuben. He then appeared in nine episodes of The Royals as Marcus Jeffrys. In the Endzeit miniseries Hard Sun , he was a guest star in three episodes as Will Benedetti. From 2015 to 2020, he played his biggest role in 43 episodes of the crime series Blindspot , where he played the character of Dr. Robert Borden embodied. In the 2019 television series Humans , he played the part of Anatole in seven episodes.
