Ulf "Puh" Jönsson (born December 25, 1958 ) is a former Swedish football player . The defender played his career almost exclusively at Halmstads BK .

Career

Jönsson, who came from the youth of Halmstads BK, sat on the bench in Allsvenskan several times during the 1979 season , but was not used to win the championship. Only in the following season he played as a central defender in the top Swedish league and quickly established himself as a regular under coach Jan Mak . Under this and his successors Stefan Lundin and Kenneth Rosén he was largely undisputed, while at his side with, among others, Alf Peterson , Tommy Frejdh , Peter Larsson , Mats-Ola Carlsson and Ola Svensson, the team-mates switched on the defensive. The team had long established itself in the middle of the table in the top division, they ended the season in 1987, not least due to an injury disaster on a relegation place.

While some teammates had subsequently left the club, Jönsson HBK remained loyal to the second division. Under the new Scottish coach Stuart Baxter , he was then one of the guarantors for direct resurgence. Together with the newly signed Torbjörn Arvidsson , he formed the central defender duo in the following first division season in 1989 , with which the club barely missed the championship finals as fifth. After Baxter relied on a back three in the defensive lineup for the following season , he found himself increasingly on the bench. He then left the club after the end of the season after 207 league games with eleven goals, including 186 Allsvenskan games and eight first division goals, and let his career run out under class.

Jönsson first played for Nyhems BK for two years , later he was player- coach at amateur club Haverdals IF . There he was seriously injured in a game and was temporarily in a coma . He later worked as a trainer again.
