Mats Ola Svensson (born April 6, 1964 ) is a former Swedish football player . The defensive player won the Swedish championship and the national cup with IFK Göteborg .

Career

Svensson comes from the youth of Halmstads BK . In the fall of 1982 he moved up to the first division squad of the club and made his debut under coach Jan Mak in the Allsvenskan . In the following years he was mainly a supplementary player and was only used irregularly. It was only under coach Stefan Lundin that he was temporarily given a regular position as a central defender in the 1985 season , but was slowed down by various injuries during the season and the following season. Under Kenneth Rosén he moved into defensive midfield, but the club rose to the second division at the end of the 1987 season .

However, Svensson stayed in the Allsvenskan and joined IFK Göteborg . Here he was a regular player right from the start and in the summer of 1988 he belonged to the squad of the Swedish national team for the Summer Olympics in Seoul alongside players like Martin Dahlin , Anders Limpar , Jan Hellström and Jonas Thern . There, after winning the group before the West German Olympic selection in the quarter-finals against the later semi-finalists Italy after extra time, he remained without a game under selection coach Benny Lennartsson .

Two years later, Svensson won his first national title when he won the championship title with the team around Kaj Eskelinen , Thomas Ravelli , Kennet Andersson and Stefan Rehn at the end of the 1990 season in the finals against IFK Norrköping . In the meantime appointed team captain, he led the team to defend their title in the following season. When he won the Swedish Cup in the summer of 1992, he was also a regular player as well as in the successful qualification and in the group stage in the 1992/93 UEFA Champions League , when the club behind AC Milan, who dominated with six wins, missed the final in second place in the group. Then he moved into the second tier due to injury and was no longer one of the 13 excellent players with the most stakes in the championship wins of IFK Göteborg at the end of the 1993 and 1994 seasons .
