Ulrich Gollmer (born September 14, 1949 in Stuttgart ) is a German author, translator and publisher.

Life

Gollmer studied political science , history , sociology and English at the University of Stuttgart (MA 1979). He then worked in adult education , since 1980 at Bahá'í-Verlag, the publishing house of the German Baha'i community, initially as a lecturer and since 1994 temporarily also as managing director .

His own works always pursue a humanistic claim. The focus of Gollmer's interest are political, historical, linguistic and social aspects of Baha'em , often in contrast to other (especially the Abrahamic) world religions . He sees his basic theological research as a contribution to interreligious dialogue ; in some cases it also has an apologetic character. So far, his contribution to the understanding of politics of the Baha'i has received the greatest attention , summarized in Disinformation as a method (a response to a publication by the Evangelical Central Office for Weltanschauungsfragen from 1981). Gollmer regularly takes part in interreligious events such as the Nuremberg Forum of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg . In 1984 he was a founding member of the Society for Baha'i Studies and later co-initiator of the German-speaking Irfan Colloquium . In 2006 he helped found the Baha'i Studies Foundation .

Gollmer's main focus of work at Bahá'í-Verlag between 1980 and 2013 was the translation and edition of Baha'i primary texts, which in addition to the works of the religious founders Baha'ullah and Bab also include those of Baha'ullah's son, Abdul-Baha . Gollmer was particularly involved in the translation of Baha'ullah's writings: for example Ährenlese (1980, 1999), Messages from Akka (1982), Hidden Words (1983, 1997, 2001), Prayers and Meditations (1992), Kitab-i- Iqan (2000), Kitab-i-Aqdas (2000), Claim and Annunciation (2007), Gems of Divine Mysteries (2007), Tabernacle of Unity (2012). He was also the editor in charge of the series Studies on Bahá'ítum [sic].

Gollmer is married and has three grown children. He himself comes from a family that converted from Protestant Christianity to Baha'it in Stuttgart in 1910. His grandfather Paul Gollmer also met Abdul-Baha in Stuttgart in 1913.
