Ulrich Peltzer (born December 9, 1956 in Krefeld ) is a German writer .

Life

Ulrich Peltzer studied psychology from 1975 with a minor in philosophy at the Free University and graduated in 1982 as a psychologist . In his diploma thesis he dealt with "Aspects of the formation of bourgeois individuality in court society".

Peltzer works as a freelance writer and has published several books. In it he processes his time in Berlin and experiences in New York. Characteristic of Peltzer's city novels is the lack of a conventional, realistic portrayal of the outside world. Instead, the focus is on the reproduction of the protagonists' consciousness processes. He describes his turn to the metropolis as follows: I lack the feeling of nostalgia . Landscapes don't evoke much for me. I like to be in big cities.

He is a member of the PEN Center Germany . He has been an elected member of the Akademie der Künste (Berlin) since 2010 and director of the literature section since 2015, of which he became deputy head in 2012. The German Academy for Language and Poetry elected him a member in 2015.
