Ulrich Schwab (born July 9, 1941 in Stuttgart ) is a German theater director .

Life

Apprenticeship and first years of employment

Schwab studied law , business administration and theater studies in Munich and Lausanne . During his time as a trainee lawyer in Munich, he received acting training from Hanna Burgwitz and made his first assistant directors and studio productions.

1969 after his second state examination he was a lawyer down with his own practice in Munich and joined simultaneously engaged as assistant director , shortly afterwards as personal assistant to the director Helmut Henrichs at the Bavarian State Theater , Residenz Theater , in Munich.

From 1972 to 1979 Schwab was, alongside opera directors Christoph von Dohnányi and Peter Palitzsch, as a member of the board of directors of the “codetermined” Schauspiel Frankfurt, administrative director and thus a member of the trio of the Frankfurt Municipal Theaters . In 1979 he was appointed as “General Manager” as the sole artistic and commercial founding manager of the “ Alte Oper Frankfurt ”, which reopened in 1981 and which he managed until he was resigned in 1984 without notice. In summer 2013 he took over the production management of Verdi's Rigoletto in the production of his daughter Ulrike Schwab (musical director: Sebastian Tewinkel ) for the Schlossoper Haldenstein / Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden . In February 2014, his Kempten “Romeo and Juliet” production with actors from Altusried was successfully resumed in the Altusried theater box.

From 2000 to 2006 Ulrich Schwab was President of the "Free Academy of the Arts Mannheim", of which he is still a member today as well as of the " German Academy of Performing Arts ".
