Five Sharia police officers: acquittal. Is jail for insulting the prophet threatened soon? ”The reason for the tweet was the conviction of Ursula Haverbeck .

After massive criticism from the students, the rectorate of the University of Münster dealt with van Suntum's statements. University spokesman Norbert Robers: "The rectorate and the dean's office of the economics faculty distance themselves clearly from the statements of Prof. van Suntum." The rectorate will follow up the matter "promptly - but internally, since it is a personnel matter."

When asked by the newspaper “Westfälische Nachrichten”, Van Suntum explains: “There is a right to freedom of expression in Germany, which also applies to professors. Not only do I consider the acquittal of people who openly advocate Sharia law in Germany and even presume police enforcement powers to be wrong. ”However, the professor does not share the opinion of the Holocaust deniers, according to his statement:“ That the denial of the Holocaust on the one hand is idiotic and on the other hand also punishable, we agree on that. But whether you should give an 88-year-old woman two and a half years imprisonment and thus effectively life sentence for this reason, one can and may be divided. "
