Ulrike Brandenburg (born April 17, 1954 in Münster , † May 24, 2010 in Aachen ) was a German doctor and sexologist . Until her death she was President of the German Society for Sexual Research .

Life

Ulrike Brandenburg attended the Pelizaeus grammar school in Paderborn and graduated from high school here in 1972. She then studied medicine at the universities in Berlin , Münster and Hamburg . In 1979 she completed her studies with the state examination and her license to practice medicine. After numerous further training courses in the field of sex and family therapy, he was awarded a doctorate and became a specialist in psychotherapeutic medicine.

In 1990 she moved to the Clinic for Psychosomatics and Psychotherapeutic Medicine at the University Hospital of RWTH Aachen University . Here she took over the construction and management of the sexology outpatient clinic. This was followed by the management of other sexual science functional areas in different departments of the RWTH Aachen University Hospital.

Since 2004, Ulrike Brandenburg has had her own practice in Aachen with a focus on couple and sex therapy. In 2006 she founded the Institute for Sex Therapy Aachen / Heidelberg together with the well-known sex and couples therapist Ulrich Clement . Her research activities related to old age sexuality, impotence, listlessness and aspects of communication in the tabular areas of intimacy.

For years, Ulrike Brandenburg has offered various sexual medicine training curricula in a tiered concept. In this regard, she collaborated with Ulrich Clement in Aachen, Heidelberg, Austria and Switzerland until the end.

In addition, Ulrike Brandenburg and Heinz Kersting looked after an interdisciplinary Balint group in Aachen for many years . She held numerous international specialist lectures and seminars on the subject and acquired an excellent reputation as one of the most respected specialists in her field in the area of ​​advanced training, especially among general practitioners, gynecologists, urologists and psychiatrists. This was underlined by numerous contributions in the form of specialist books / specialist magazine articles in national and international literature.

She gave regular interviews for the most important German print media and was frequently invited to appear on television. Ulrike Brandenburg became known as a specialist in the intimate, especially through themed evenings by broadcasters such as WDR, ARTE, ZDF, ARD, SWR ( night café ). In 2007/2008, together with Susan Akel and Michael Thiel , she took over the therapeutic moderation of the 50-part RTL program “Familienhilfe mit Herz”.

Until recently she was President of the German Society for Sexual Research in Hamburg, the oldest and largest specialist society in Germany. She was also co-editor of the journal for sex research.

Ulrike Brandenburg died after a serious illness and left her husband and three children.
