The sea rescue boat (SRB) Umma was a 7-meter class boat belonging to the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS). The boat was built in 1971 by the Schweers shipyard in Bardenfleth under construction number 6419. The internal name was KRST 21.

Naming

Umma is a Frisian woman's name and expresses the attachment of the DGzRS to the German coast. The second name Norddeich (from February 8, 1990) was given to the boat due to its relocation to this location on the North Sea coast. The boat was renamed again on April 20, 1994 in Mövenort , an area on the northern tip of the island of Rügen .

Technical Equipment

The lifeboat was equipped with radio systems, echo sounder , GPS , external bilge pump and a rescue port.

Like all "real" boats of the 7 m class, the boat had no radar device (further explanation: Kaatje sea rescue boat ).

Stationings

On July 3, 1972, the Umma began its service on the island of Helgoland , which ended on December 15, 1981. After a break in operation, it was moved to Eckernförde on April 30, 1982 , where it was in use until 1985. From April 14, 1985 to February 1990, Damp was the location. On February 8, 1990, the name was changed to Norddeich , the name of the place to which the boat was relocated on April 7, 1990. The mission in Norddeich ended in June 1990, and from June 1993 to April 20, 1994 the SRB was not permanently assigned to any DGzRS station, but served as a reserve boat until it was moved to Freest , where the boat - now renamed Mövenort - ended the service in August 1996. After a short break, the relocation to Breege took place on April 27, 1997. The decommissioning took place in October 1999.

The boat has been on display in the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven since November 1999 .
