Uncle Kracker (* 6. June 1974 in Mount Clemens , Michigan as Matthew Shafer ) is an American rock musician .

life and career

He started his career early as a rapper . In 1987 he met Kid Rock , for whom he worked as a DJ . The two became friends. In 2000 Kracker started to work solo. His first album, Double Wide , was made on the tour bus that Kid Rock and Kracker took in 1999 and 2000. The single Follow Me became a hit, the album has so far been awarded two platinum awards. In 2002 the second album No Stranger to Shame was released with the hit In a Little While . It combines rock with blues , rap , country and swing . Seventy-Two and Sunny (2004) with the hit Rescue was a pure country blues album with no rap elements.

Uncle Kracker was charged with molesting a 26-year-old woman in a nightclub on August 17, 2007. He pleaded guilty on September 28, 2007. The charge was downgraded from sexual harassment to harassment. The Wake County court sentenced the singer to 12 months probation and a $ 1,500 fine, as well as undergoing alcohol therapy.

Shafer was married to his childhood sweetheart, Melanie Haas, from 1998 to 2013. You have three daughters.
